Steps in Carpet Installation
The very first step is to remove all the old flooring in the room or rooms that will be getting a fresh new floor covering. After the old flooring is gone, the subfloor will have to be cleaned, so that it is smooth and free of any debris, paint scraps or anything else that could create a surface that isn?t completely level.
Next, the doors will have to be removed, so that installers won?t have to work around them. It?s also necessary sometimes to trim doorjambs, and having the doors out of the way can make this process a whole lot easier. Of course, once the doors are reinstalled, you?ll want to make sure, if the installers haven?t already done so, that the doors open and close properly over the top of your new carpeting.
The carpet padding will be installed next, and it is actually a very crucial part of the whole process. Some homeowners think skipping this step might save them some money, but it really doesn?t. In fact, it can lead to bunching of the carpet, seams that come apart and premature damage, caused by every day wear and tear that can really cut years off the lifespan of your flooring. It?s never a good idea to skip this step!
Once the padding is in place, the carpet will then be installed with seams attached and obstacles trimmed around. Finally, the flooring will be stretched, so that bunching will not occur. In this step, several different specialty tools are necessary.
Finally, the finishing touches are added, including cutting out around vents and attaching molding, if necessary or desired.
